Dive, dive, dive!

The Stuka Dive Bomber could be considered the quintessential dive bomber.  With it's invented gull wings and Jericoh's Trumpet siren it is what most people imagine when they have to picture a dive bomber.

As part of the German strategy of testing its new weapons and tactics during the Spanish Civil War, a variant was smuggled into Spain to the Condor Legion in secret and took part in the 1937 attack on Bilboa against its antiqued fortification, before being secretly returned to Germany.  This field testing under combat conditions was invaluable to the Nazi's but once again, as with Blitzkrieg tactics and the use of armoured fighting vehicle during the conflict, the opportunity was not fully exploited and the Stuka was to later learn harsh lessons when pitted in untested air to air combat against an airforce that could field non-obsolete aircraft.

In game terms I'm counting the Stuka as a Medium Bomber/Medium Fighter to differentiate it from the obsolete biplane fighter bombers.

¡No pasarán!
