Flight of the Condor

Following Franco's request to move his troops from Morocco to the mainland and the subsequent German airlift, Nazi Germany had a decision to make as to the nature of support it would offer to Spain.  Thus was born the Condor Legion.  It was to offer fighter and bomber support, amazingly accurate anti-aircraft assistance (bask in my alliteration), tank training and military advice and technical support.  Over the skies of Spain they introduced carpet bombing techniques (most famously at Guernica) and through the fields, practiced the use of blitzkrieg tactics for tank warfare (to a large degree this was how not to use tanks in warfare).

Hermann Goering, At Nuremberg October 1946

"When the civil war broke out in Spain Franco sent a call for help to Germany and asked for support, particularly in the air. Franco with his troops was stationed in Africa and he could not get his troops across, as the fleet was in the hands of the communists. The decisive factor was, first of all, to get his troops to Spain. The Führer thought the matter over. I urged him to give support under all circumstances: firstly, to prevent the further spread of communism; secondly, to test my young Luftwaffe in this or that technical respect."

In AWA the Condor Legion plays a supporting role.  They have excellent Initiative and Morale.  At Jarmara this support is demonstrated by two units of HMG's. I used two MG42 figures I had knocking about from Forged in Battle.
To limit them to a supporting role they are only introduced to the table once the enemy front line has fallen back from their initial positions and may not advance further then long range for their guns, which is 25 inches.

¡No pasarán!
